BUDD VAN LINES INC

We're still midstream, so there's a possibility I'll edit this or change it. We've paid Budd > 90% of their price. We moved (corporate relocating) into company provided housing while we found and bought a home; Budd put our belongings into storage. The day we closed, we asked them to deliver three weeks out. Their word back in April was that when we had a place this summer, they'd deliver in a couple weeks. We gave them three weeks. They do not provide a date certain but suggest that rather than wait three weeks, we should wait 7 or 8. If you have a choice, think again. This company did great moving me 30 years ago, so I chose them again. In the intervening years, looks like they have slid far to the worse. Maybe, since they've got 90% of my money, > $10K, they feel they needed perform to their word anymore?

Fantastic experience moving with them. Extremely respectful, professional, friendly, and hard working. Bryan Moran and his team could not have been better. They finished a day early, only needed one container instead of the predicted two (saving me storage costs), and did a great job with protection wrap on all my furniture. Bryan also checked in regularly asking if "everything is looking good," which I really appreciated.

Request for Quote: A+ Got quote quickly during high demand season. Quote was slightly less than others. Scheduling: A+ Fit into our plans perfectly for pack/load, storage and final delivery. Move Coordinator: A+ Excellent response to questions and kept us informed all along the way. (except for final payment problem - see below) Pack and Load A+ Probably the best pack/load we have ever had and we have moved ten times. House prep was excellent - very professional and courteous. Storage and Warehouse Handling: A The "load it once" feature is great b/c there is no need to unload/crate and store, then uncrate, load and deliver. However you will not save any money on warehouse labor charges even though there is much less work involved. Move out of Storage and Final Delivery: B Had four men unloading instead of two so it was rushed. Not able to keep up with the placement of all our items. Should have been given notice about the number of men. They did a great job protecting all the surfaces and did not cause any damage. Financials: F Payment was made in two installments I confirmed via phone that this was payment in full for all services, including final delivery. The charges were less than the estimate which I attributed to the fact that we sold much of the heavier items and packed/stored many boxes on our own. The charges were based on weight and number of boxes Budd packed. The day before delivery out of storage I was presented a bill for an additional $1300. Budd would not deliver without payment. When I complained to the coordinator I was told it was a communication error with Accounting and these extra charges were for the delivery out of storage. Big mistake on my part not getting that payment confirmation in writing - but I relied on the fact that Budd is a very large and reputable moving company. We did not have the time or inclination to pursue a formal complaint against the company b/c I was dumb not to document that paid-in-full phone call. Claim Handling: B+ Had a minor damage claim. They were very fair but it took two months and many follow ups to close it out. Not a big deal. Overall Rating: You decide. 90% of my rating is due to the disputed charges. Everything else was pretty darn good. We were a cash move and I think Budd does mostly corporate contracts so I can't reliably determine if the extra charges were an honest mistake - or not.

I have used several different moving companies throughout the years and Budd Van Lines was absolutely the best moving company I have ever used. Alan (initial contact), Richard (driver) and Daryian (coordinator) all did an outstanding job from start to finish for my recent long distance move. All of my items arrived safely and during the agreed time period. If you want a professional, stress free move at a reasonable cost, I highly recommend Budd Van Lines.

We recently used Budd Van Lines for a corporate move. The driver Bryan Moran was the best partner I have worked with in my 20 years with my company, having moved all around the company. He was nice, on time, hard working, flexible, and cared about ensuring we were comfortable and got settled as quickly as possible. The teams he hired in both locations to pack and unload our items, were quick and efficient and careful with our items. Our experience was great specifically because of Bryan. He should be recognized!

I am only writing this review now, almost two years after my move from Dallas, TX to Portland, OR. Today was the final straw and I had to write a review of my terrible experience with this company. Full disclosure, my company paid for the move, but they still should have received a large refund based on the extremely poor performance. The last straw was when I was looking for the hardware to re-attach my refrigerator handles. The fridge had been in storage for the last year and a half and we are now looking to sell it as it's practically brand new and we don't need it. You would think that, when packing us up, they would have packaged the attachment hardware either with the handles or the fridge. It is nowhere to be found. This has happened countless times. Even on the day the unload team moved us in to our Portland home, there was so much trouble finding hardware, they actually left several items unassembled. They also broke two of our kitchen table chairs. I understand things happen. On that day, a representative from the local unload company showed up, took pics of the chairs and said someone would be in touch to repair them. I never heard from anyone and ended up spending the $300+ to replace them. The unload team was definitely in a rush and left things unfinished, but promised they would be looking for missing items and making things right. Far from it. I've moved several times in the last 10 years, both locally and out-of -state and the real problem is, you don't know whether it was a good job or a bad one until you start trying to find things. I tipped the crew very nicely and really regretted it. If I move again, I will insist on using another company beside Budd Van Lines.

I’ve moved with Budd Van Lines 3 times in the last 18 months, and I’ve had very inconsistent experiences. Communication was spotty with each- being asked for the same information multiple times even though it was provided previously via email, having to reach out for updates on when my movers would arrive due to radio silence from the company, being told a delivery date only for them to decide they couldn't navigate after they had arrived. In my most recent move, the delivery team did not abide by CDC guidelines and did not wear masks or ask if I preferred that they put them on. Since the fate of all my belongings were in their hands, I didn’t feel comfortable bringing it up to them. The team unpacked most of my stuff, but I was ready to get them out of my home as quickly as possible, so some boxes were left unpacked. The delivery lead provided incorrect guidance that even though I was signing off on the delivery paperwork, that I’d still have time to submit claims for any lost or damaged items (which had been my experience moving with Budd the previous 2 times). Once I realized what all was missing, my claim was denied based on me signing off on the paperwork (which is exactly what the driver guaranteed would not happen). After arguing with the company, they reimbursed me for half of the amount of my missing items as “a gesture of customer service” and acted as though it was not a big deal. Moving is a stressful process, and working with Budd only added to the stress. I’ll use another company for my next move. ****Update after the owner's response below, they have not been in contact.

Bryan and Mason were fantastic and full of energy. They were polite and respectful and I appreciated the way Bryan handled my move by communicating to me all the details I requested. I will definitely request them should I need movers again. Keep up the good work!!

I have used Budd for any moving project I have had for over twenty years that I didn't do myself. Amazingly, the same guy at Budd, Alan, has been my contact all these years. The company has always done good work. Prompt, clean, responsive. Alan is always trying to find solutions and seems to be available 'round the clock. Only company I will use for moving.
