It baffles me as to where the tax dollars go in this state. I'm a huge fan of rest stops and I use them quite often across the country. Rest stops in California are hugely hit-and-miss - being either insanely disgusting beyond belief or absolute godsends. This one is neither because well - it wasn't open. I ask: why the hell is such a huge and important stop on the freeway closed? Especially on a busy through route to Las Vegas? It's not like we get very many choices. If it wasn't for the historical marker here (photos below), I would've completely bypassed it. At least it gave me a place to stretch the legs if you count parking on the off-ramp to walk inside.

Well maintained rest area. Restrooms were pretty clean. Nice view to the surrounding desert.

Gets 2 stars because at least it was open this trip. A lot of my trips by the rest area north and south have been closed. It is not clean. Not stocked. Don't see any vending. Plenty of parking. Pet area. Picnic area.

Great place to stop and take a break. The restrooms are very clean and large. There are several covered areas for a picnic or coffee. Easy to find. Plenty of parking. The off and on ramps are nice. Entering and exiting the rest area are easy.

Very clean rest stop. Spacious, but we have a camper and the directions to go to the camper side are inaccurate. We had to park sideways across 4 car spaces. So if you have a camper I'd recommend using the truck and trailer side for parking.

For what appears to be a newer rest area, this place was not very impressive. One of the sinks in the bathroom was not working, two of the soap dispensers were not working, and at least one of the hand dryers was not working. Plus, how come when I travel in Utah or Idaho they manage to provide warm water and warm air for me to wash and dry my hands but for some reason California fails?

4 Cell bars & around 20 Truck spaces. Very open and spacious RA with new amenities. A welcoming RA from the rough desert driving. With the weather permitting, exploration of the openness is a must, but I'm sure there are quite a few native species you need to be very aware of.
