Wilkes County Rest Area
This rest area is very clean. It has lots of space to park and walk dogs on all three sides. The walking trails are a bonus! Informational displays are interesting. This is one of the nicest rest areas I have visited. I've traveled a lot.

We always make sure to stop here when we're going by. Lots of clean restrooms. There are several walking trails so you can stretch your legs. Dog friendly. Friendly, knowledgeable people in the visitor center waiting to answer your questions. There are always local artists wares on display, ready for purchase. Picnic areas.

I stop here when I'm driving to my parents to avoid a gas station.
It's always clean. There is a visitors center, picnic tables and I believe a walking trail. It's very easy to get off and on ramp from 421. The parking is great and it's never busy. I see a few trucks there always.
The day I stopped they had a quilt exhibition but I was in a hurry.

This is the cleanest rest stop that I have visited to date. Even though North Carolina has some very clean and excellent rest stops, this one tops it all with the wonderful visitor center... and the staff are so helpful with suggestions.... Glad I stopped!

This rest stop is AMAZING! Super clean and beautiful landscaping. They have a butterfly garden and so many beautiful flowers. They also have a trail, which I didn't go on. Plenty of picnic tables so it was the perfect spot to stop for lunch.

This is the nicest rest stop! It has a walking trail, lots of picnic tables (both covered and uncovered), clean bathrooms, vending machines, and a small gift shop. There’s lots of parking and plenty of space to stretch your legs. In the summer, the trail is covered in blackberries!

I travel from.the coast to the mountains at least once a month. I usually stop at this rest area. It is always clean and the grounds well maintained. There are several stalls to help avoid waiting and are kept clean & stocked.
There are a lot of areas where Snowball can walk and take care of business, with a good supply of bags for that purpose.
There are also a variety of choices to rest and eat a packed lunch or item(s) chosen from the vending machine.
When I lived in the mountains, it was a landmark that we were almost home. It is still a welcome sight, but now tells me I've almost reached my destination.

It needs a water feature like ALL THE OTHER NC REST AREAS already have. Like a man made recirculating creek with waterfalls or a fountain along the sidewalk going to the restrooms. To bring the mountain feeling to the rest area. Even during the winter the other rest areas faux creeks are still flowing. A real soothing sound and sight. Lots of free space for this here.

Best rest area I've ever seen! Beautiful, with trails and native plants. Sustainable with solar panels, water reclamation systems and recycling. Snacks and information, picnic areas and clean restrooms. Awesome.

I love this little rest area. I always stop when heading to western NC. It makes it easy for me to get off the highway, use the potty, grab a drink, and get right back on the highway. The rest area is unique because it has nature paths and a trail to enjoy while you stop. The visitor center is a plus when it's open 9am-5pm.
